Garlic comes in so many colors, sizes, types and varieties.
We love adding a few new Garlic Varieties to our field each season. We grow them out for a few years to see how they perform in our high desert climate and to build up our Garlic Seed Stock for each variety.
The ones that do well get to stick around, then ones that do not either get (1) eaten or (2) passed on to a farmer friend to see if they have better success in their field, as we're all growing in such different micro-climates.
When a new Seed Garlic Variety becomes available in our Garlic Shop, you know it's a winner and that we're very happy with how it's performing in our field. The variety shown here, Uzbek, is a new addition to the Seed Garlic Shop this season. A lovely Turban variety that was quick to adapt to our field and produces large heads of garlic. We appreciate how the Turban varieties are ready to harvest a couple weeks ahead of the rest of our field. This provides culinary garlic that we can start selling at our farm stand and to our wholesale accounts, well before the majority of our garlic crop is ready.
