Our Member Farms are focused on building organic matter to improve our soil health. One of the ways we achieve this in our climate is through cover cropping.
In this photo you can see Piper the farm dog looking out at a field of buckwheat blooming in late August at Mountain Roots Produce. This field was seeded with a triticale cover crop last fall. That cover grew tall this spring and was mowed and incorporated in June. Then the field was reseeded mid-July with buckwheat.
This cover crop will be flail mowed and incorporated soon so we can prep beds for planting our Seed Garlic in October. Farmers are always planning and looking forward.
